Reisverslag 2010 Rina Franzen

My angel gave me € 1500,00 to spend on anything we would find important . The bulk of the money will be spend on a toilet at one of our new schools. This school is literally in the middle of the jungle and it took us  about 45 minutes over a very sandy path to reach it. It is about 3 hours from Kandy and there around 120 kids at this school.
The teachers have to stay there during the week and stay in very simple quarters. After 3 o’clock the school is empty. There is 1 female teacher as the other  2 female teachers were on leave. (pregnancy) but they will not get any supply teachers from the government. Hardly anyone speaks a word of English and it was than no surprise that all kids failed their English exams. No kid has ever seen a big city and their lives are in the jungle with a little bit of food.

The rest of the money will or is spend on:
• transport  (€100,00)

• biscuits for the above school and dinner for my helpers. Not for me as we couldn’t find a
  restaurant save for me. (€50,00)

• games such as ludo, shape games, nursery books, counting games, maps, posters and
mathematical games. This was given to our 2 new schools. (€70,00)

• pocket money for the girls of Succes. They get every year 200 rupees and love this.
They always buy chocolates from it.

• €100,00 will be spend on one of the triplets. My friend Kanchana works at a school and there are
triplets. They love to learn but the parents haven’t got enough money to support them. So she
asked them if we could help. We couldn’t help all 3 boys. So we help one boy and thank goodness   she found sponsors for the other 2 boys.

• €150,00 will be spend on a washbasin and commode. This was a request from the Buddhist
organisation who we have helped over the last couple of years in the way of food supplies for a
boys home. They bought (all from donations) a building and are renovating it. So when it will be
finished people can rent it for a function (party, meetings, weddings etc.)

• With this income they can help the homes again.
