In 2015 we got from the Louise foundation 15.000,00 euro.
We have done 5 things with this money.
1- Oppale playground
2- 50 new bikes
3- 280 children could go to school
4- water dispensers
5- a temporary appointment for 1 English teacher for 2 years.

new bikes to a village in the Northern-East of Sri Lanka. This village is set up by the government. The people get money from the government to built a small house. Over the last few years we helped the nursery there. Now the army asked for bikes so that the older children could go to their primary/secondary school . Those schools are so far away that the children stayed at home. Another reason was as well that the roads are in a very bad way and when it has rained you can’t walk at all. The army helped us with this project. They picked up the bikes, organised the parents and got everything ready.
3.
The government had decided that the students needed to buy more items for school. The headteachers of those schools ( the schools which we help as organization) phoned my contact person Ramani . They said is was wonderful to do all those things for the schools ( new toilets, playground etc.) but it looked that there were no students left as parents could not afford the additional 15 euro. This would be a once off as parents will have a whole year to save this money for the year after. (see letter)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Ramani Smits from Sri Lanka, doing social work as a volunteer. My main concern is to help the neediest children from the far away villagers to get the education. I started with Ms. Natasja Lammers in 2007 with a small project with selecting 15 neediest children to go to school and a school to develop. We found generous sponsors for the children too. In 2014 we are helping 280 children with sponsors. We developed the facilities of six schools.
This year we are facing a big challenge. Six of our village school principals are asking whether we can help some of the children from their schools to continue schooling in 2015 because they can not afford the school materials.
Our schools made the request.
Ilpemada primary School – for 38 children.
Kinigama Junior School – for 40 Children.
Damunupola primary school – for 60 children.
Yatala primary school – for 58 children.
Kolugala junior school – for 12 children.
All together there are 208 children. Each child cost around 15 Euros. This school material will be for whole year. This is out of our sponsor children.
We wish to get some help to send all those children to school in 2015.
Thank you in advance.
Ramani Smits
4. water dispensers
water tons given by another organisation
The filtered water is transported through pipes underneath the ground. People can pick it up from the shed.
5. We found out that we couldn’t find a English teacher. The village is too far away from the bigger towns. So we decided to give the nursery teacher extra money. 6000 Rupees per month which is around 50 euro. She is the only nursery teacher in the village . She was given a training by the government for 3 months. If she leaves there is no one who can take over!
